Responsible business

Social, environmental and ethical considerations are central to the way we run our business. We are focused on protecting the environment, supporting communities and ensuring the wellbeing of our employees. We continue to actively seek opportunities to play our part as a good corporate citizen and contribute to the communities in which our stakeholders live and work.

Our approach to responsible business

We want to make a positive difference through the services we provide, the way we provide them, and the way we run the Group. We aspire to go above and beyond to create a brighter future that will benefit employees, clients, shareholders and the wider environment for current and future generations.

Our guiding principles serve as our foundation of trust and guide everything we do.

Our responsible business approach is structured around our stakeholders and is divided into three pillars: people and communities, corporate and operational, and responsible investment.

People and communities

People

Our people are the driving force behind our success. We are committed to creating an environment in which they feel valued and inspired, while supporting communities where we and our clients live and work.

Communities

We are guided by our core principles to do the right thing and to care for our communities by making a positive impact. We actively encourage our employees to give back through charitable and voluntary activities.

We encourage our people to support the causes that are important to them.  Staff can use volunteering days to build connections with their local communities and give back to society.

We want to have a positive impact in the communities we are part of and empower our people to give back to their communities. We are involved in charitable activities both at corporate, office and individual level.

We support giving back to the causes that are important to our people.

The Group introduced volunteering days in 2019. Volunteering gives everyone the chance to build connections with their local communities and give back to society.

The Group supports several charities through two key initiatives. The first is through a dedicated charity fund enabling employees to request support for local charities close to their hearts. This charity fund is enabled through the ʻGive As You Earnʼ programme from our employees who can donate a portion of their salary directly to this charitable fund on an ongoing basis.

The second is through our support of a chosen national charity. Currently, we are supporting Hospice UK through fundraising, volunteering and raising awareness for campaigns throughout the year.

Gender pay gap reporting

At Brooks Macdonald, our commitment to nurturing an inclusive culture that values diversity is embedded in our Guiding Principles. These principles are fundamental to being a great place to work for our employees, and to realising ambitions and securing futures for our clients.

Below, our Gender Pay Gap Reports detail the initiatives and progress we have made in reducing our gender-based pay gaps.

Corporate and operational

We are committed to understanding and mitigating the environmental impact of our operations. We behave responsibly and with integrity and treat our suppliers fairly.

We believe that businesses are accountable for achieving good environmental practice and for working in a sustainable manner. We are committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030.

We have designed all our workplaces for our people.

They are designed to be flexible, diverse and supportive of different working styles. We consider the wellbeing of everyone who enters our offices, that’s why each workspace includes contemplation rooms, biophilic design, collaboration spaces and places to relax.

We are committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030.

We are in the early stages of our own sustainability journey, but we have already made meaningful steps by:

  • Putting recycling points in all our offices
  • Keeping single use products to a minimum
  • Reducing our paper usage and encouraging our people to ‘go digital’
  • Actively sourcing products that are Fairtrade or locally produced
  • Upcycling furniture when moving offices to avoid unnecessary waste
  • Working with suppliers focussed on sustainability
  • Providing a cycle to work scheme for those who wish to travel to work by bike
  • Purchasing only renewable energy.
