Our guiding principles

Our values (we call them guiding principles) define our long-term strategy and how we serve our clients every day. We are a values-driven organisation, and our guiding principles have been a major force in shaping our firm.

More than paper-based ideologies

They provide the principles that shape our actions and are essential to fulfilling our mission to build robust personal relationships that allow us to provide a high level of service to all of our partners and clients. We are dedicated to the highest professional standards and believe in acting with honesty, fairness and clarity in everything we do.

Transparency and integrity

Our guiding principles are a powerful force to support our commitment to transparency and integrity. To make these principles more than just paper-based ideologies, our performance-management approach is centred around transparently linking employee goals to these beliefs and rewarding performance against them.

Women in Finance Charter

Women in Finance Charter

We are proud signatories to this commitment by HM Treasury to work together to build a more balanced and fair industry.

In September 2018, Brooks Macdonald signed up to the Women in Finance Charter. At that time, we had 23% female representation in senior roles, and in 2021 we set a revised target of 30% to be achieved by 2024. As of May 2024, 39% of senior roles were occupied by women and 41% of the total workforce was female.

Nevertheless, this success does not stop our ambitions to build on this target and we continue to focus on increasing our gender balance at all levels. We are committed to the advancement of women within financial services. We are ambitious and passionate about creating a diverse and equitable workplace at Brooks Macdonald which is Inclusive by Design.

Charity Committee

Charity Committee

We're all about making a difference and doing the right thing. In fact, they're two of our guiding principles - developed by our people for our people and combine the best of who we are today with who we aspire to be. Our clients come first, but we also want to have a positive impact on our wider community.

The Charity Committee has been set up to focus our charitable efforts, to help us make a real difference to charities that have a clear link to our guiding principles. Following nominations and a vote across the Group, the current Brooks MacDonald's chosen charities are:

Great Ormand Street Hospital Charity

The Wave Project

Mental Health First Aiders

Mental Health First Aiders

Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA) England describes the role of a Mental Health First Aider in the workplace as “a point of contact for an employee who is experiencing a mental health issue or emotional distress”

Our team of Mental Health First Aiders provides an avenue for people who are struggling, and is available to colleagues who need someone to talk to in complete confidence.

We're all about being connected, not only with our clients, but with each other. We work hard, but there's value in making time to play hard too.

The Social Committee is in charge of organising and hosting events to help employees spend social time with colleagues.
