Partnerships
We are proud to partner with several organisations who not only build a more balanced and fair industry but also help to encourage and support diversity at Brooks Macdonald.
Women in Finance Charter
We are proud signatories to this commitment by HM Treasury to work together to build a more balanced and fair industry.
In September 2018, Brooks Macdonald signed up to the Women in Finance Charter. At that time, we had 23% female representation in senior roles, and in 2021 we set a revised target of 30% to be achieved by 2024. As of May 2024, 39% of senior roles were occupied by women and 41% of the total workforce was female. Nevertheless, this success does not stop our ambitions to build on this target and we continue to focus on increasing our gender balance at all levels.
We are committed to the advancement of women within financial services. We are ambitious and passionate about creating a diverse and equitable workplace at Brooks Macdonald which is Inclusive by Design.
#10000BlackInterns and GAIN
We are proud to have partnered with #10000BlackInterns and GAIN (Girls are Investors) to help encourage and support diversity at Brooks Macdonald, and across the wider wealth management sector. Each internship provides valuable industry experience, enhances professional skills, and increases employability in the competitive financial sector.
In 2020, we signed up to the #100BlackInterns scheme; a programme designed to support work placements for 100 black students and graduates across the Investment Management industry. After a staggering response from businesses wanting to support the scheme, and the number of individuals interested in taking part, the programme increased its ambitions to 10,000 with the aim of offering 2,000 internships each year.
GAIN’s focus is to generate more and better prepared women for investment firms through early engagement with sixth form and university students.
We started working with GAIN (Girls Are Investors) in 2021. GAIN is a charity set up by investment professionals to improve gender diversity in investment management by building a talent pipeline of entry-level female and non-binary candidates.
Investment 20/20
We have been running our trainee scheme in partnership with Investment20/20 since 2018, and 50 trainees have gone through the programme as of 2024. The scheme offers trainees an initial 6 or 12 month fixed-term contract where participants will gain the key skills needed to carry out their role.
During this time, they’re assigned to a specific business area and gain the key skills required to carry out their role. They also attend several events and training sessions hosted by Investment20/20 designed to help build and develop wider industry knowledge.
Hear from some of our colleagues who have started and developed their career through our partnership with Investment20/20:

"I joined Brooks Macdonald back in October of last year as part of the Investment20/20 programme and in the short time I’ve been with the company I have gained a lot of experience thanks to the support from my colleagues across the Group. The biggest thing that I have taken away so far is that is okay to make mistakes, at the end of the day we’re only human. But it’s important we learn from them! I couldn’t really ask for better colleagues who are available to provide support and advice on tasks big or small as well as the fact they won’t look at you any differently for making mistakes or asking questions.
I have also developed and gained new skills both role specific as well as company/industry based, mainly being able to step back and look at the bigger picture and see how the work I do affects the wider group both in finance and Brooks.
Prior to Joining Brooks Macdonald, I had a very limited understanding of the wealth management industry, I knew of its existence and roughly what it was, I never really had a view on the industry prior to joining but I can now say it is a very interesting area of the financial world - one with a lot of depth and plenty of learning experiences.
Some advice I’d give to anyone thinking about joining Brooks is to go for it, with a wide range of job roles it opens the door for some great opportunities. I’m happy with where my time in Brooks has taken me and I’m excited for my next steps!
If I were to describe Brooks Macdonald in three words it would be, in no particular order: Supportive, Rewarding, Inspiring."

"Working at Brooks Macdonald has given me a confidence boost. I’ve had the opportunity to voice my own opinion in ongoing projects as well as offering my own ideas and improvements which has really helped me step outside of my comfort zone. I have also gained a lot of knowledge within the industry and within my area of focus. No matter what question I have there is always someone happy to help or explain.
I’ve learned how to manage my time more effectively. There are many deadlines that need to be met, all while juggling different meetings. I have also developed my teamwork skills, within HR I have to work with many different employees to solve queries or complete tasks, helping to develop my communication skills and build a wider network. Overall the experience has given me a great foundation to take the next steps in my career.
I’ve gained a better insight of how the asset/wealth management industry operates. I’m now more aware of how much interaction there is with clients, the business is more personal than I thought it would be. Working in HR has widened my vocabulary as I have learnt many different terms relating to the industry.
If I could give any advice to future trainees it would be: Get involved in as many different projects and learn as much as you can, there’s no such thing as a stupid question!"

"I came to Brooks Macdonald for an event sponsored by Investment20/20 during my time in sixth form. I heard directly from investment managers and financial planners and I was excited to apply.
I chose investment services because I wanted to be on the investment side in the thick of things. I really liked the interview process, it felt personal and wasn’t just about my A-Levels. One question asked us about items we’d take to a desert island which was definitely memorable!
I started in a new team just before lockdown began and initially I was really nervous about how it would work but the team have been amazing. I’ve been encouraged to ask loads of questions and everyone has been helpful and accessible. It’s been great.
I’m hoping in a few years I’m still with Brooks Macdonald, maybe moving into a front line role. I’ve definitely grown and learnt a lot, and I’d recommend it to everyone."
