Bloom(berg)ing Marvellous Effort at the Square Mile 2012

Thursday 20th September saw over 1,000 runners and more than 100 teams compete in this year's Bloomberg Square Mile Relay 2012.

First place were 2010 champions Barclays with a time of  51 minutes 12 seconds, beating Legal and General into second place by just 44 seconds.

Along with the coveted trophy, Barclays were given £5,000 to donate to  their designated charity, the Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre (MSRC).

Runners were cheered on by huge crowds in the Guildhall, including London 2012 heroes Team GB Mark Hunter, Tom James and Alex Partridge and three-time Paralympic medalist Liz Johnson who were also on hand to start the race.

For the second year in a row Brooks entered two teams. Dressed in black branded running tops, the teams really stood out from the crowd, something picked up by the Bloomberg official video below:

Competition was fierce as always and the course had been “improved” to make it more challenging. Even so, the first team finished in 27th place and the second team (a little slower) in 90th place out of 98 teams.

For some employees such as Keileigh Allen and Colleen Odriscoll (see below), this was their first experience of the race, and judging from the smiles in these photos (and even post-race)  we will be seeing them again next year.

Fastest person was London Investment Manager, David Rose, with an impressive 5mins 36 seconds. This means he now holds the record for both the Bloomberg and JP Morgan races despite declaring he is“the least fit he has been in ages”before every race.
