Sponsorship and community

We believe that businesses have a role to play in making communities better and we have an extensive programme of sponsorship and charity work. We sponsor Middlesex County Cricket Club (MCCC) because the sport encapsulates the blend of integrity and performance that we strive to achieve ourselves.

But we also sponsor a host of other local sports clubs that give people the opportunity to come together as a community. These range from the GP Sprint Athletics Club in Manchester to Baillielands Football Club under-8s in Scotland and Guernsey Hockey Club.

We have always had a charitable culture and this manifests itself through the Brooks Macdonald Foundation. Since its formation in 2011, the foundation has helped more than 100 charities across the country.

Middlesex CCC

We’re delighted to announce that we have extended our headline sponsorship of Middlesex County Cricket Club until the end of 2019. It’s a sponsorship that has allowed us to raise the profile of Brooks Macdonald by supporting a club that embodies values we aspire to ourselves, such as fairness and integrity.

Since beginning our sponsorship in 2012 we have worked closely with the team, sponsoring, for example, a tour of Jersey, which gave junior cricketers on the island a chance to take part in coaching sessions with MCCC players and staff.

The club proves that these values are no hindrance to strong performance. Since its formation in 1864 it has won many major honours, including being crowned First Class County Champions 12 times and winning ten one-day domestic competitions.

It’s this blend of integrity and performance that has made Middlesex a magnet for some of the world’s best cricketers. Australian batsman Adam Voges has signed for another year, while the brilliant outgoing New Zealand Test captain Brendon McCullum will join in late May. The club has also provided some legendary players to the England Test side over the years, including Mike Gatting and Andrew Strauss.

Brooks Macdonald Foundation

Brooks Macdonald Foundation

London

The Brooks Macdonald Foundation was created in 2011 and since then has donated more than £120,000 to 100 different charities. All donations are to charities nominated by our staff.

The Foundation aims to benefit from the growth of the Group and provides a forum for fundraising concepts, as well as channelling the enthusiasm of staff into meaningful support.

Funds are generated through a number of channels, including:

  • Corporate donations
  • An employee Give as You Earn scheme
  • Company and individual fundraising events
  • Donations from friends, family and clients

In addition, for every meeting held within a Brooks Macdonald office £1 is donated by the Group to the Foundation.

Our employees have taken part in events ranging from sponsored cycle rides and hikes to a cricket match at Lord’s to raise money. Three of the key organisations that have benefitted are listed below:

  • Fields of Life: this is a charity that works in East Africa. It is committed to collaborating with communities to bring about positive change through the provision of quality education, clean water, health promotion and other community-based projects.
  • Barnardo’s Spring Hill School: the school provides a special education and care service for young people who have a wide range of learning difficulties and challenging behaviour.
  • The Sunshine Coach Project: run by the Variety Club, this project raises money to buy specially adapted minibuses to take ill, disabled and disadvantaged children on trips. We raised the £20,000 needed to buy one minibus.

The committee

The Foundation’s committee consists of seven members from around the Group and is chaired by Investment Team Director Edward Channing. It meets once a month to consider applications for funding from staff and new ideas for raising money. The standard amount each successful applicant receives is £750, although there are exceptions when this is increased.
